Woodboring beetles belonging to the families Buprestidae and Cerambycidae are among the most diverse groups in Coleoptera, however, in a megadiverse country as Colombia, its diversity is highly underrated. In current years, efforts have been done in order to fill this gap, especially in the Caribbean of Colombia, where local institutions have started to study these families. First, a bibliographic revision was performed in order to gather all Buprestidae species reported to be in Colombia. This study revealed that the country has four subfamilies, fourteen tribes, 30 genera and 147 species, from which 67 are endemic. These results place Colombia as the second most diverse country in Buprestidae species known to date in the neotropics. Second, to understand Cerambycidae diversity many surveys has been conducted in the Caribbean coast, allowing to analyze the taxonomic and functional diversity of the family across different regions. This has led to the description of over 20 new species and around 70 species’ distribution was expanded. With this result, Cerambycidae has three subfamilies, 34 tribes, 90 genera and around 132 species in the Caribbean of Colombia. It is expected that these numbers will increase in the following years, as more efforts are put together.
