In this talk, I reflect on a career-long journey into leadership roles in collaborative science, aimed at addressing the enormous challenges of achieving both sustainable production and biodiversity conservation. Along the way, with many valued colleagues, we have developed solutions for effective collaboration across disciplines and sectors. Despite the essential role of insects in natural and managed systems, integrating our discipline into these broader synthetic efforts has been and remains a challenge, but a challenge we must and can meet.
