Associate professor Farmingdale State College Farmingdale, New York
I was hired at my Primarily Undergraduate Institute (PUI) to teach General Entomology to all horticulture students as a biology technical elective. The problem? There was no teaching collection! In this presentation, I’ll provide guidance learned from seven years of developing and maintaining a teaching collection from student collection donations and research by-catch. I’ll cover learning objectives/requirements to ensure that students provide quality materials, labeling guidance, databasing ideas, and how one can create student internships focused on developing curatorial skills.
