Microbial symbionts play diverse roles in insects' fitness, ecology, and evolutionary history. The presence or absence of such microbes can influence host development, mate selection, and allow for the utilization of novel niches and resources. Here, we intend to highlight how environmental microbes and gut associates influence their insect hosts.
