The insect order Grylloblattodea, commonly known as ice crawlers, comprises a small group of 30+ species in 7 genera found in cold, high-elevation habitats of western North America and East and Central Asia. As one of the least-studied insect lineages, they offer a unique window into evolutionary processes in extreme environments. This presentation will highlight ongoing efforts to generate and analyze next-generation sequencing data from Grylloblattodea. By leveraging modern genomic approaches, we aim to shed light on the evolutionary history and ecological specializations of this enigmatic group.
