Watermelon is an important vegetable crop in Florida. We grow almost 26,300 acres of watermelons and harvest about 25,000 acres. Thrips (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) are economically important pests of watermelons. Among thrips, melon thrips (Thrips palmi Karny) and pepper thrips (Thrips parvispinus Karny) are the common ones in the Homestead watermelon crops. Thrips palmi population abundance is significantly higher than the pepper thrips. In the present study, the biological insecticide M-306 EP was ineffective in suppressing thrips. Sivanto Prime and Sivanto SL significantly reduced pepper thrips but did not provide any suppression of melon thrips.
