This late-breaking symposium will address the recent re-emergence and spread of the once-eliminated New World screwworm fly (Cochliomyia hominivorax [Calliphoridae], NWS) across Central America and Mexico. The symposium will target medical, veterinary, and agricultural extension entomologists who are likely to have a role in correctly recognizing and properly reporting suspected animal and human cases of NWS, should it eventually spread back into its former range in the southern United States. Panelists will engage in Q&A discussion with the audience, and we expect to connect interested audience members with appropriate points-of-contacts across the several federal agencies that are coordinating the national NWS response program (e.g., USDA/APHIS, CDC, etc.).
