When achieving course objectives for a class with a major summative assignment, best practice is to break the assignment down into multiple components, providing students opportunity to learn the necessary skills and concepts to complete the summative assignment with low stake assignments. It is imperative that feedback be provided throughout the process so students are prepared for the larger assignment, and the feedback is provided in a timely manner so that students can utilize and incorporate the feedback for the upcoming assignment. This can be daunting for large classes but is achievable! I’ll provide some suggestions that have worked for me and hopefully be useful to others too.
