Sunflower is economically important in the US and is valued at $227.30 million annually. The red sunflower seed weevil (Smicronyx fluvus) is an economically important pest in South Dakota, affecting sunflower industry. In this project, we plan to develop a web-based platform that will combine pest monitoring data, weather variables, crop management practices, GIS, sunflower crop phenology, and remote sensing using machine learning to predict pest pressure and risk categories at the field scale. By doing so, the web-based platform will offer spatial tools and risk alerts to support sunflower growers in decision-making for managing the sunflower seed weevil. In this poster, we present a conceptual framework outlining our plan to develop the web-based platform for the scientific community.
