Glucose oxidase (GOX) is an insect salivary enzyme that both suppresses and induces plant defenses. Previous research has shown that even closely related plants have varying reactions to GOX (defense suppression, defense induction, or no reaction). This project examined the response of Solanum lycopersicum var. cerasiforme (cherry tomato) to GOX. Cherry tomato showed no reaction to GOX. To ascertain the mechanisms behind the lack of a response to GOX, experiments comparing the glucose levels of cherry tomato to Solanum lycopersicum (cultivated tomato) were conducted.
