While not often referred to as an invasive species, the tomato pinworm (Keiferia lycopsersicella) has invaded the Indiana region of tomato production through what can best be understood as a combination of adaptation and protected culture production systems. In this presentation, I will review the unique growing environment of high tunnels, go through the discovery process, establishment of a monitoring network, and progress towards the development of an IPM plan. This will include the importance of cultural practices and the discovery of natural enemies. I will highlight the role of grower collaboration and the development of educational tools to help raise awareness. You will gain insight into my experience of the development process of building an IPM plan for a new or invading pest.
