The popularity of occupancy-detection models with museum specimen and participatory science data has increased significantly in the last several years. Here, I will survey the application of these models to butterfly and moth communities as well as emerging frontiers in the use of artificial intelligence to estimate complex, non-linear dynamics in the occupancy-detection framework.
